Title: Training the farmers in Bulgaria

These two workshops were organised under the AgroPlan project.

The aim of the two farmers’ workshops organised by the Bulgarian partner in the project - BB&T Ltd., was to develop and increase the basic knowledge and skills of the target groups and especially farm owners and young farmers, as well as to pilot the training approaches adopted by the AgroPlan project and to assess the Vocational Training Manual and the possibilities for its further use.

The Farmers workshops covered the two selected modules:

  • Diversification
  • Producer groups

The main conclusions drawn up from the two pilot workshops organised, are:

  • there is a certain and realized need among the farmers for more knowledge and business skills;
  • a certain change in the attitude towards planning and marketing is observed and this process should be promoted and further developed;
  • the farmers need to be informed for the other countries’ experience and to learn from their success and mistakes;
  • there is a significant interest among the Bulgarian farmers to the financing sources and the forthcoming changes, due to the EU accession in 2007;
  • the use of case studies is highly appreciated and recognised as very useful and raising new ideas;
  • the practical and simple style of the materials developed is corresponding to the farmers’ requirements for this type of workshops;
  • the comparatively small size of the groups is very efficient and creates good environment for practical exercises and discussions;
  • the training materials and approach developed by the AgroPlan project can be used and further developed for the benefit of the extension services representatives, consultants and the farmers.
