The EU Leonardo programme aims at developing the quality, innovation and European dimension in vocational training systems and practices through trans-national co-operation. The objectives of the programme are to:

- Improve the skills and competencies of people, especially young people, in initial vocational training at all levels.

- Improve the quality of, and access to, continuing vocational training and the lifelong acquisition of skills and competencies, particularly in order to consolidate technological and organisational change.

- Promoting and reinforcing the contribution of vocational training to the process of innovation, with a view to improving competitiveness and entrepreneurship.

Title: Training of Trainers in Greece

In the context of the AGROPLAN project, workshops are organised with the aim to provide the necessary management and entrepreneurship skills to trainers, consultants and farmers of various regions in Greece.

The training of trainers was conducted the 11-12 April in Athens. The Trainers all Agronomists working in the central service, of the regional continuous vocational training centres and vocational technical education establishments of O.G.E.E.K.A. ‘DIMITRA’, are also experienced trainers in the training of farmers.

The workshop training, involved the areas of farm business planning, marketing of agricultural products, agri- environment and sustainability, farm diversification and producer group initiatives. Upon the completion of the workshop and the related discussion, useful remarks were be drawn regarding farm management and entrepreneurship in Greece

In conclusion the interest expressed so far by the target groups, both farmers and trainers, is an indication of the need to further expand and enforce the training activities and the support initiatives that will contribute to the adoption of the necessary management skills and to the encouragement of the entrepreneurial spirit of the farming population in Greece, as means of increasing the competitiveness and sustainability in rural areas
